Nothing stands in the way of launching the third, sports channel of the state-run Slovak Television (STV) - "Trojka" on August 8, when the Summer Olympics commences in Beijing, said director Gabriel Kollár at a meeting of the STV Council on July 8.

Trojka manager Andrej Miklánek said that the STV sports desk currently has enough staff to cover the needs of the new channel. STV economic director Libuša Baranová said that this year's costs for Trojka would reach Sk100.383 million. Of this, it expects to earn Sk7.6 million from advertising and sponsoring will bring additional Sk2 million. The rest will be covered from a Sk90.783 million state subsidy that arrived in the STV account on June 3.
STV subsidiary 1.2 Media will shelter commercial activities and ads for new channel. STV 3 is initially scheduled to broadcast seven hours daily; the beginning of round-the-clock broadcasting is planned for 2010. It should cover mainly local sporting events and also foreign events with Slovak participation. SITA
