Conversion of all bank systems in Slovakia to the euro on January 1 has been smooth and without incident, central bank (NBS) governor Ivan Šramko told the press conference at NBS headquarters on the same day.

"The cash dispenser network has been fully functional and able to issue euros by 2 am", said Šramko, specifying that some 28 percent of cash dispensers were able to dispense the new currency as early as one minute after midnight, and by 0:30 it was 80 percent, news wire TASR reported.

"At the moment, at least 96 percent of cash dispensers have been adjusted and are able to dispense euros," said Šramko on January 1, adding that payment terminals at shops have been put into operation by 2 am.

Finance Minister Ján Počiatek said that Slovakia has not registered any significant problems and the minister does not expect any significant problems in the days ahead, TASR wrote.

"For sure, there will emerge some small, local problems, that will have to be dealt with ... we only need to be patient," Počiatek said. "Therefore I believe that the whole transition process will go successfully."
