Greenpeace in Slovakia is protesting against efforts to solve the natural gas crisis by re-launching the operation of the V1 Nuclear Power Plant in Jaslovské Bohunice, which was shut down on the last day of 2008, the SITA wrote.
"Greenpeace considers statements by Prime Minister Robert Fico about a potential restart of the V1 Nuclear Power Plant at Jaslovské Bohunice with the aim of solving the current crisis with gas supplies to be absolute nonsense," said Greenpeace spokesperson Slovakia Lucia Szabová. Greenpeace said that Slovakia uses only 12 percent of imported gas to generate electricity.
Greenpeace also stressed that re-launching the power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice would contradict Slovakia's EU Accession Agreement. The group said Slovakia should seek real solutions, which it listed as energy saving and local renewable energy sources. SITA
